What the Health Poster-Online
Vegans and health enthusiasts alike gathered at the AMC Loews Theatre in Manhattan’s Union Square area on March 7 for the premiere of the hot new documentary What the Health. Filmmakers Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn wowed moviegoers yet again, with a packed screening followed by an after party at nearby Jivamukti Café. You may know the duo as the inspiring pair responsible for Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret. While Cowspiracy focuses on the environmental impact of animal agriculture, this time the two were on a mission to expose the collusion and corruption in government and big business as it pertains to healthcare in America.

After the credits rolled, the audience was treated to a Q&A hosted by musician, author and Ironman Triathlete John Joseph. Andersen, Kuhn and special guests Dr. Michelle McMacken and Ruby Lathon — the former Nutrition Policy Manager for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine — talked about the doc and answered questions from the crowd.

When asked what it took to make such an in-depth film, Andersen said it required, “Two years and a lot of perseverance.” Party attendees remarked that the documentary was, “Definitely an inspiration.” One woman thought of her grandparents and the flaws in nutritional education that are nonchalantly passed down. Others remarked how sad it is that we hear sugar is the true source of myriad health complications, when in reality it’s only the tip of the iceberg. Fats, as it happens, are so much worse.

The after party at spiritual oasis Jivamukti Yoga included scrumptious catering by Vspot Organic and Blossom Du Jour. Everyone enjoyed wraps filled with deliciously prepared, wholesome vegetables and a variety of perfectly seasoned empanadas. Juice Press provided flavored waters and a decadent dessert table boasted treats by chef and caterer Peter A. Cervoni. Think carrot cake bites, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate hazelnut brownie bites — all 100% vegan of course! Before leaving, partygoers were gifted goodie bags packed with cruelty-free delights and coupons for products from ethical companies.

Farm Sanctuary Gala

LAFC at the Farm Sanctuary Gala!

October 24, 2015

Wow, what a night! We were so excited to get all dressed up and party with old and new friends, to celebrate all of the animals rescued by Farm Sanctuary. Not only did this annual, star-studded, elegant event raise a lot of money for the animals, we also got some huge news.  Guests of honor Tracey and John Stewart announced that their animal farm will become another location for Farm Sanctuary!  Hooray for increased awareness and the big hearts of the Stewarts.

Cowspiracy Premiere

Yes, LAFC rocked out at the Cowspiracy movie premiere!

August 21, 2015

If you haven’t heard of Cowspiracy, it’s an eye-opening documentary highlighting the monumental, destructive impact of animal agriculture and commercial fishing on our planet. But while it may seem like an insurmountable problem, the good news is that there is something you and I can do as individuals!

By becoming aware of the food choices we make and where we spend our money, we can take back the power from the greedy industries that are destroying the Earth and create a massive wave of positive change. High fives!

Here’s a short, 1-minute clip from Cowspiracy:

The Seed Experience 2015

LAFC at the Seed Experience… onstage!

June 20 & 21, 2015

This was our very first table at a festival!  The Seed Experience holds events all year long, raising awareness of the various aspects of the vegan lifestyle.  The Expo is their biggest, annual event showcasing tons of products and showcasing interesting speakers to educate and answer questions about animal welfare, health and even fashion.

Our Editor in Chief, Adrienne Borgersen hosted a panel called “Do You Know Where Your Clothes Come From? Why Veganism is Not Just a Diet, but a Lifestyle”  discussing the impact of fashion on animals. Did you know that leather, fur, wool, feathers and silk are sourced from animals, in ways that are just as cruel as factory farming?

Launch Party

Highlights from our magazine launch party!

Despite the bone chilling cold (it was 9 degrees), 150 of our friends and subscribers (who we also consider friends) came out to celebrate the launch of our magazine!  Over 60 sponsors and volunteers donated their time and talents to help prepare delicious vegan food, drinks, a rockin’ goodie bag, great music, and a raffle to raise money for Tuff Tails Animal Rescue.  It was tons of fun.  Were you there?

Party all night!
